Women in Finance Rwanda Foundation (“WIFR”, “we”, “us”, “our”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your personal data when you visit our website, www.wifrwanda.com (the “Site”), register as a member, or participate in our events and programmes.
We process personal data in accordance with Rwanda’s Law N° 058/2021 of 13/10/2021 relating to the protection of personal data and privacy (the “Data Protection Law”), which is supervised by the National Cyber Security Authority (NCSA).
2. The Data We Collect
Depending on how you interact with us, we may collect:
- Identity and contact data: name, email address, phone number, employer, job title, and professional sector — collected when you register as a member, sign up for events, or contact us.
- Mentorship data: information you provide when applying to be a mentor or mentee, such as your experience, goals, and areas of interest.
- Technical data: IP address, browser type, and Site usage data collected through cookies and analytics tools (see our Cookie Policy).
- Communications data: records of correspondence when you contact us.
We do not knowingly collect data from children, and we do not collect sensitive personal data unless you voluntarily provide it and we have a lawful basis to process it.
3. How We Use Your Data
We use your personal data to:
- process and manage your membership;
- organise and communicate about events, mentorship programmes, and training;
- send you newsletters and updates about WIFR activities (you may opt out at any time);
- respond to your enquiries;
- improve the Site and our services; and
- comply with our legal and regulatory obligations in Rwanda.
We process your data on the basis of your consent, the performance of our agreement with you as a member, or our legitimate interests in running the organisation, as permitted under the Data Protection Law.
4. Sharing Your Data
We do not sell your personal data. We may share it only with:
- service providers who support our operations (such as website hosting, email, and event management platforms), under appropriate confidentiality safeguards;
- partners and facilitators where necessary to deliver a programme or event you have signed up for; and
- public authorities where required by law.
Where your data is transferred outside Rwanda (for example, where a service provider’s servers are located abroad), we take reasonable steps to ensure it is protected in line with the requirements of the Data Protection Law.
5. Data Security and Retention
We apply appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data against unauthorised access, loss, or misuse. We retain personal data only for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes described in this policy, or as required by law, after which it is securely deleted or anonymised.
